Cherish The Moments

Life is busy. We are pulled in a myriad of directions by work, daily tasks, family, and friends. It is SO easy to forget your patient furry friend who lives for time with his person or family. For a couple of years my personal dogs took a backseat when I transitioned from educator of kids to a canine educator. I remember Jazz looking at me with hope and then resignation as she realized I was off to work yet again with another dog and just had to wait alone. I still experience guilt for wasting time with my own amazing dogs.

Their lives are much different now. No more kennel time. No more waiting for hours because Mom was just too dang busy. I think about finding opportunities for them…times where they just PLAY and enjoy life to its fullest.

For Goldens that is typically something which involves balls they can retrieve, outside hiking especially off leash, and water play . Three of our Goldens love to swim. Kimmie is not a huge fan. She prefers to keep her feet on solid ground. Retrieving is her thing.

It gives me such JOY to know I have made my dogs truly happy. Rosie grins like the Cheshire Cat. It makes my heart happy.

So take a moment and just BE with your dog. It is good for the soul. They deserve those special moments. They are only with us for a few short years, so make the most of it. You will never say I spent too much time with my dog.
